U.S Representatives are elected by popular vote for a two year term, beginning the first week of January. Delaware elections have been held on the Tuesday after the first Monday of November of the year noted since 1831. Before that date, elections were held the first Tuesday of October. Before 1935 all Congressional terms began March 4th.
Delaware has always had only one U.S. Representative, except for 10 years between 1813 and 1823, when there was a second U.S. Representative. This person was elected state-wide, at-large, on the same ballot as the first U.S. Representative. The two candidates with the highest number of votes were elected.
There were two vacancies that took place when the U.S. House was in session, and they are noted below.
