internal combustion engine s used inCitroën andPeugeot automobile s. This family is best known as the engine of thePeugeot 305 .The XU design was introduced in
1981 with thePeugeot 305 . It was aSOHC orDOHC straight-4 design with two or four valves per cylinder, usingpetrol as fuel. It was applied transversaly infront wheel drive vehicles only, tilted by 30°. Displacement ranged between 1580 and 1998 cc, and all XU gasoline engines had a bore of 83 mm (3.3 in) or 86 mm (3.4 in).The XU was replaced by the more modern EW/DW family.
XU5
The XU5 had a displacement of 1.6 L (1580 cc), with a
bore of 83 mm (3.3 in) and astroke of 73 mm (2.9 in). All XU5 engines wereSOHC 2-valve per cylinder designs. It used either a single or double-barrelcarburetor orfuel injection , depending on model. Output ranged from 80–115 PS (79–113 hp/59–85 kW).XU9
The XU9 had a displacement of 1.9 L (1905 cc), with a
bore of 83 mm (3.3 in) and astroke of 88 mm (3.5 in). Many versions were produced, from a double-barrel carburetted 8-valve to a 16-valveDOHC fuel injected model. Output ranged from 105–160 PS (104–158 hp/77–118 kW).XU10
The XU10 had a displacement of 2.0 L (1998 cc), with a
bore andstroke of 86 mm (3.4 in). Many versions were produced, from a double-barrel carburetted 8-valve to a 16-valveDOHC fuel injected turbocharged model. Output ranged from 115–200 PS (113–197 hp/84–147 kW).ee also
