Fashion Awareness Direct

Fashion Awareness Direct

Based in London, Fashion Awareness Direct (FAD) , was set up in 1997 as an independent non-profit making organisation started by a number of individuals from different backgrounds (designers, fashion students, people from the industry and members of the public) who shared a common interest in fashion. It received charitable status in 2005.

The main ideas encompassed by FAD are the promotion of the cultural aspects of fashion, the concept of fashion as an art, and the fostering of a deeper understanding of how fashion can enhance the dignity of the human being.

FAD runs an annual competition for fashion students undertaking university courses and also fashion futures projects for school and college students.

In 2005 it presented its first fashion show for college students. The first prize was that the winner had their dress made and sold in ASDA supermarkets under the George label.
