Mike Rutherford . The title suite (occupying side 1 of the original vinyl version) is based on the dark, surrealist novel of the same name byPeter Currell Brown . It was released in 1980. The album was produced byDavid Hentschel , who also produced the Genesis album "Duke" the same year.Anthony Phillips , Rutherford's original songwriting partner in Genesis, plays keyboards on the album. It was recorded atABBA 's Polar Studios inStockholm ,Sweden , for tax purposes, in the fall of 1979.Track listing

# "Overnight Job" – 5:43*The US pressing of the original LP reversed the sides, so that the "Smallcreep's Day" suite was on side two. It was released there by Passport Records.
The ending of the concept portion of the album is considerably more optimistic than that of the novel.
There was also one track called "Compression" that was left off the album but appeared as a B-side. This track is perhaps one of the rarest Genesis-related tracks to find since it has never been released on CD (except on a very limited-edition German fan club CD, "It's Only Knock And Knowall", in 2002).
"Romani" can be construed either as the plural of Romans, or as the classical reference to the proper name of the gypsies.
