Kane & Abel is the name of a rap duo formed by twin brothers Daniel and David Garcia.

Biography

Of mixed African-American and Puerto Rican descent, the Garcia brothers were born in the Bronx, moved to Spring Hill, Florida with their older brother where they lived with their grandparents. The brothers later moved to New Orleans. There, they attended Xavier University, majoring in Mass Communications. Going under the group name Double Vision and under the management of Luther Speight, the brothers were signed by Master P to No Limit Records [http://www.latinrapper.com/featurednews29.html Hip Hop Interview - "Kane and Abel - New Beginnings"] ] .

After releasing two albums with No Limit, including the certified gold selling classic Am I My Brothers Keeper the twins left the label to start their own company, Most Wanted Records. While studying at Xavier University, the brothers met alleged drug kingpin Richard Peña of New Orleans, who legitimately financed their music career. Prosecutors later claimed that Peña urged the Garcias to work in his drug ring, prior to his 1997 arrest in which he pleaded guilty to his involvement in eight murders [http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1448870/09142001/kane_abel.jhtml MTV News - "Kane & Abel Sentenced To Three Years In Cocaine Case"] ] . The twins were later arrested and placed on trial themselves for refusing to cooperate in Peña's cocaine and murder case. Lawyers for the rappers suggested a plea deal in which they would plead guilty to drug conspiracy charges and admit to having received 10 kilograms of cocaine from Peña in 1996 and 1997. At the time of the Garcia's arrest, Pena had already pleaded guilty to these charges in a separate agreement with prosecutors two years earlier. Pena was already two years into serving a life sentence when the Garcia's were indicted. The initial deal was rejected, and in September of 2001 the Garcia brothers were sentenced to three years in prison for refusing to cooperate with prosecutors.
