Francisco González (tennis)

Francisco Gonzalez played professional tennis in the 1970s and 1980s.

Born in Wiesbaden, Germany, on November 19, 1955, he was a citizen of Paraguay, and played collegiate tennis at the Ohio State University.

He was ranked as high as No. 49 in the world in singles (achieving that ranking on July 12, 1978), and 24th in doubles (November 26, 1984). He reached the biggest singles final of his career at Cincinnati in 1980, stunning Jimmy Connors in the semifinals before falling to former Cincinnati champion Harold Solomon.

Francisco Gonzalez has been the Head Tennis Professional at Sierra Sport & Racquet Club since 1998. Played on the ATP Tour from 1977 to 1990, consistently ranked in the top 100 in singles and doubles with the highest ranking of #34 in singles and #22 in doubles. USPTA certified since 1992 and USPTR certified since 1994. Played Davis Cup for Paraguay (World Group 1983-1990), and Puerto Rico’s Davis Cup (1992). Outstanding career wins over Ivan Lendl, Jimmy Connors, Stefan Edberg, Andres Gomez, Vitas Gerulaitis, Yannick Noah, Elliot Teltscher, Johan Kriek, and Henri Leconte. Played #1 for the Ohio State University (1973-1976). Bachelors Degree in Business Administration with a major in Management from the InterAmerican University, Puerto Rico.
