Selangor ,Malaysia . The district was created onFebruary 1 ,1974 , the same day whenKuala Lumpur was declared a Federal Territory. Until 1997,Rawang was the district capital; the capital has been moved toBandar Baru Selayang . Gombak borders Kuala Lumpur to the southeast and theGenting Highlands to the east. Both Gombak and Kuala Lumpur, along with other districts in Selangor, are situated within theKlang Valley .Gombak is administered by the Selayang Municipal Council or
Majlis Perbandaran Selayang (MPS).The
International Islamic University Malaysia or UIA main campus is also located here as well as theBatu Caves . Gombak is also home to an aboriginalOrang Asli settlement, and it is the site of the National Aboriginal Museum,Orang Asli Museum andMimaland , a recreation park which has operated between 1975 to 1994.Gombak River merges with the largerKlang River in Kuala Lumpur. The meeting place of the two rivers is the birthplace of Kuala Lumpur. At the center of the confluence is theMasjid Jamek .Bird flu struck both Gombak and the
