Lunlun Zou

Lunlun Zou (surname Zou; Chinese language - traditional: 鄒倫倫; simplified: 邹伦伦; pinyin: Zōu Lún Lún) is a player and teacher of the guzheng, a Chinese zither. She has performed at many concert halls and opera houses around the world, including Vienna, Frankfurt, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Sydney, and has performed for China's President Jiang Zemin and Australian Prime Minister John Howard.

Lunlun Zou performs and teaches in Hong Kong.

Lunlun's style

She has her own style of playing the guzheng which is different from the traditional way of playing, and often causes controversy. She plays the guzheng in the manner of the piano in its dynamic range, from "ppp" to "fff".

Biography

Lunlun was born in a family with four generations-long tradition of guzheng playing. She started playing the guzheng at age 2, and undertook serious music studies at age 7 when she entered a music boarding school, which was part of the Shenyang Conservatory of Music. At age 18, Lunlun begun music studies at the Shenyang Conservatory, where she was taught by Zhao Yuzhai, Cao Zheng, Lu Diansheng, and Zhang Jinxia. Four years later, she graduated with highest honors.

In 1991 she was appointed as a guzheng soloist in the Liaoning Dance Troupe. In 1995 she moved to New Zealand and was invited to perform at the New Zealand National Museum, New Zealand-Sino Friendship Association, "Orient Express Radio", "Page 90" Gallery of Porirua, and the Genghis Khan Cultural Heritage Exhibition. In 1997, she was invited by New Zealand's Governor General to perform for the opening ceremony of the "Asian Arts Festival" at the Government House. In 1999, Lunlun performed for Jiang Zemin during his visit to Sydney and in 2004 for the Chief Executive of Macau, Edmund Ho.

She has won many music competition prizes and awards. She regularly tours through major cities in China, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Australia, and the United States, records for radio and television.While she lived in Australia, Lunlun established a Chinese traditional music group, "3 Sisters", with pipa player (Lulu Liu), and erhu player (Yingying Liu). The trio often performed at the Sydney Opera House with the East-West Symphony Orchestra.

She has recorded a CD called "Spring Hope" by the Art Tune Recording Company of Hong Kong.
