Willoughby v. Stever was a
1973 legal case in whichcreationist William Willoughby sued theNational Science Foundation directorH. Guyford Stever for using taxpayer money to fund pro-evolution textbooks "promoting"secular humanism as the "official religion of theUnited States ", and so allegedly violating theEstablishment clause of theUS Constitution . The lawsuit was dismissed by theDC Circuit Court of Appeals on the grounds that the textbooks disseminatedscience , notreligion .
