Ron Henley (b.
December 5 ,1956 inHouston ,Texas ) is a grandmaster ofchess , and a chess writer.Ronald Watson Henley was awarded the
International Master title in 1980, and the Grandmaster title in 1982. He won the GM title by winning a 24-player round-robin grandmaster super-tournament inSurakarta ,Denpasar ,Indonesia , famously defeating GrandmasterTony Miles in the last round.Henley is now best known for his business associations. He is right-hand-man, second, analyst and trainer for former
World Chess Champion Anatoly Karpov . This is especially surprising since Henley is not known to be able to speak any Russian.Henley has written several chess books, and also served as a chess trainer and promoter of young, women chess stars such as
Irina Krush . Henley narrated the double-volume chess video, "American Chess Princesses," in which Irina Krush, Elina Groberman, Laura Ross & Shirley Ben-Dak present some of their best games from the 1997 FIDE World Youth Championships held in Cannes, France.During the 2005 Accoona Women's Chess Championship, despite his business relationships with Krush, Henley reportedly served as an arbiter during the championship match between Krush and Zhu Chen at the ABC Times Square Studios.
