He was born in Dunedin, New Zealand and died in Christchurch.

Early life
Innes was a pupil of Christchurch Boys' High School.[1]
Rugby union career
He played 31 games in the second-five-eights (Inside centre) position for Canterbury and seven games (including two tests) for the All Blacks on their 1932 tour of Australia.
Rugby league career
Following that tour he accepted an offer to play the professional game in England, appearing for Wigan and Castleford, and he appeared for England in a Test against France in 1935.[2][3]
