- Storm King School
Storm King School was Established as the Cornwall Heights School in 1867 by Louis Pedoux, an Amherst graduate and pastor of the Cornwall Presbyterian Church, the school was later known as the Stone School during the time it was directed by Dr. Carlos H. Stone. In 1923, during the tenure of Headmaster Alvan P. Duerr the name was changed to The Storm King School, deriving from the situation of the school on the northern slopes of the mountain. The School has three boys dorms and two girls dorms, Mconnel, Dempsey, High Mount, Cottage, and Stone Hall.
Accredited by the Middle States Accredited, Storm King is a member of the National Association of Independent schools, among other organizations. Coeducational since 1972, SKS serves grades 7-12 with a 7:1 student to faculty ratio resulting in classes seldom exceeding 13 students. The school serves about 140 – 150 students per year, but can handle up to 175 students. The student body is currently comprised of 60% boarding students and 40% day students.
The sports at Storm King include, Lacrosse, Soccer, basketball, wrestling, skiing, tennis, volleyball, cross country and more. In recent years the school has become more populated than ever.
As a college preparatory school, Storm King serves students with a wide range of academics.
