Furus

Furus is a small village in the Ratnagiri district of India. Furus gets its name from the Persians who came here to trade in horses. The main language spoken here is Konkani.

Location

It is positioned on the State Highway 47 sandwiched between Khed and Dapoli. The nearest Railway Station is at Khed -- 12 km away. It is situated alongside the banks of an anonymous petite tributary and blocked on all sides by hummocks. Furus has marvelous location and superior weather condition in Furus no apprehension for deluge or hurricane. It rains in plethora during monsoon thats the water for year long. Temperature in Furus in summer is between 25 to 40 degrees.

Boundaries

Furus is 10 km away from Khed while 17 km away from Dapoli. Sakhroli, Vetal wadi, Dasturi are to the south of Furus (3 km away). Wakawli is to the north. Poynar to east and Dayal and Sukhdar to the west.

Transport

Road transportation is available around the clock. There are many bus service available from between Khed and Dapoli. Rickshaw and private cars are also available. It takes approximately half an hour by bus to Khed.

Furus consists of 5 sub villages and over 800 homes with a population of more than 4000.Dominated by the community surname Parkar ( 70 TO 80% ), Maruf, Sunge,Tambe,Chishti, Alvi, Ghanekar, Masurkar, Tiseker, Gamre, Pawar, Navrat, Mahadik, Here the main religions are Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism. All live in Communal harmony.

Educational facilities

Furus was one of the first township in the area to have a high school. Education is offered in Marathi, Urdu and English medium.

Furus has an active Gram panchayat role in its development.Water Scheme and Telephone Exchange are available. Unlike other villages, it has access to cable network, mobile phone networks, mobile internet connection and computerised banking system. It has sub post office and governmental hospital.State Bank of India has a Branch in the village. 100% of the houses are provided with electricity.

Falsonda- migrated Muslim community from Tise, etc live here Katalwari- this is the southern node of Furus."Khailawari"'- this could also be called as old furus. Formerly, Furus comprised only of this part. It has Jama mosque of Furus and a Dargah of Sayyed Khwaja Qabullah Hussaini Chishti located near the river.Tekdi- it is a node of FurusBuddhawadi- It is the area where mostly the Buddhist community resides.and it has a government hospital.Mushafari- it is the northernmost node of Furus.Gavanachamaal- it is the highest situated node of Furus.Belavne-it is the area where Arabic Madrasa is there.
