- John Placid Adelham
John Placid Adelham was an English
Protestant minister.Adelham was born in
Wiltshire . He became a Catholic and joined theBenedictines . He was professed atSt. Edward 's Monastery,Paris in 1652. He wasPrior ofSt. Lawrence 's Monastery, atDieulward from 1659 to 1661, and was then sent to England and stationed atSomerset House from 1661 to 1675. Banished that year, he returned to England again and became a victim of the "Popish Plot " ofTitus Oates . He was tried and condemned to death as a Catholic priest on17 January , 1678. Though reprieved, he was detained inNewgate Prison, where he died somewhere between the years 1681 and 1685.
