Karl Iagnemma (*
19 October 1972 ) is an American writer and research scientist. The author of several scientific publications in the field ofrobotics , Iagnemma is also known through his short stories on human-robotic relationships.Iagnemma was born and grew up in Shelby Township,
Michigan , a suburb ofDetroit . He studiedmechanical engineering at theUniversity of Michigan . He received a PhD in mechanical engineering in 2001 from theMassachusetts Institute of Technology .Iagnemma has published a collection of short stories, "On the Nature of Human Romantic Interaction", which features many stories about the more human aspects of scientists/mathematicians, where the protangonists are trapped between decisions of the heart and the rational way. His short stories have appeared in the
Paris Review ,Tin House , andZoetrope , and have been anthologized in theBest American Short Stories and thePushcart Prize collections. The collection has been optioned byWarner Brothers .
