Signa E.E. Vianen (born 1971 in
Paramaribo ) is aSurinam ese journalist. She has been writing for "De Ware Tijd ", one of the country's leading newspapers, since early 2002.Vianen belongs to a generation of young media workers born shortly before Suriname’s independence from the
Netherlands in November 1975. She is best described as a promising future awareness raising "journalists ". Amongst her assets are extremely sharp insights, when addressing whatever issue at hand.Vianen lives in
South America , though her family mostly resides inEurope . Her experience ranges from regular writings for print media to (live and pre-recorded) radio broadcasts and programs, as well as television news productions since 1992. She also works in publications for theAnton de Kom University in Suriname.The
Moiwana case was one in a wide range of publications, if not regular news reports, in a time when reports about violations of basichuman rights were still somewhat considered a taboo in thisdemocratic country. Signa Vianen is one of the few locals who helped edit the original
database for the 2005 PrismaSranan Tongo dictionary, an overview of Sranan (the main dialect in Suriname) words and verbal expressions (first selection ever translated into Dutch ánd vice versa).This dictionary was published by Spectrum, a Dutch firm [http://www.spectrum.nl] .Its first edition (written by Juliënne Blanker and Jaap Dubbeldam) sold out in weeks in the
Netherlands . Spectrum is also the publisher of theWinkler Prins encyclopedia .A
