Maurice Herman Finkel

Maurice Herman Finkel
Not to be confused with Moishe "Maurice" Finkel, a late 19th century Yiddish theater performer.

Maurice Herman Finkel (1888–1949) was an American architect and Yiddish theater actor. Born in Bessarabia, Russian Empire, Finkel immigrated to the United States as a child and became involved with Yiddish theater in New York City. He received an architecture degree from the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in Manhattan, New York in 1913.

Finkel began his architecture career in Detroit, Michigan in 1915. He designed more than 200 structures, from apartment buildings and homes, to a great variety of commercial and entertainment buildings. His works include the Ossian H. Sweet House; the 1,700 seat Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor, Michigan, which opened in 1928; and the Michigan Theatre in Jackson, Michigan, which opened in 1930. Each of these buildings is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

He is the father of TV sports producer, and three time Emmy winner, George Finkel.
