- Lupita D'Alessio
Lupita D'Alessio (born Guadalupe Contreras Ramos on
March 10 ,1954 inTijuana ,Baja California ) is a Mexican singer and actress. She is nicknamed "La Leona Dormida" (a title of one of her songs which translates to "The sleeping lioness") because of the constant theme of criticism of men in her songs and presentations. She is the daughter of
television presenter Poncho D'Alessio and was previously married to actorsJorge Vargas andSabú (fromArgentina ) as well as to footballersCarlos Reinoso (fromChile ) andJulio Canessa (fromUruguay ), musician César Gómez and modelChristian Rössen (fromGermany ). She has two sons with Vargas: Jorge, and actorErnesto D'Alessio and a younger son, César, with César Gómez.Biography
She started her career in showbusiness with her father Poncho D'Alessio who had a musical show called "La Familia D'Alessio" on a Tijuana television station. She then moved to
Mexico City and released a single "Mi Corazón es un Gitano", then she was selected to perform the theme song of thetelenovela ofTelevisa titled "Mundo de juguete ". She was invited to take roles on "Ana del aire" and other productions in the 1970s and 1980s. Lupita sang the title song of telenovela "Pacto de Amor", where she also acted. In 1980, Lupita was one of the main characters in Ernesto Alonso's "Aprendiendo a Amar", where she played the role of his older daughter(the younger daughter was played by Erika Buenfil). The telenovela starred Susana Dosamantes (mother of Paulina Rubio). Lupita also sang the title song "A Mi" and it was a smashing success and classic to this day.
During this time Lupita was already a major force in the Latin American music scene. She toured Central and South America and her most important songs became anthems for women. Among them are: "Como Tu", "Inocente Pobre Amiga", "Ya No Regreso Contigo", and "Juro Que Nunca Volvere".
In 1986, Lupita starred in the successful classic movie "Mentiras" alongside Juan Ferrara, where she played Lupita Montero, an aspiring singer, who found love and success at the same time. The soundtrack of the movie was filled with classics or soon to be classics, such as the title track "Mentiras", "Acariciame", "Que Ganas de no verte nunca mas", "Te estas Pasando", and her most famous tune: "Mudanzas".
"Mudanzas" is her most recognizable song and a Must-Be Staple in her repertoire, with which she almost always closes her live shows or TV presentations. The song is memorable especially for its spoken part, where Lupita vents out all her hidden anger and feelings as a woman trying to cope with love, success, happiness, unhappiness, and her right to make mistakes because she is "a woman like any other (Soy mujer como cualquiera)"
In 1987, Lupita starred in the short telenovela "Tiempo De Amar", alongside Fernando Allende. The novela was a minor hit, and today it's mostly remembered due to its classic theme "Ni Guerra Ni Paz", which is another of her long list of classics. Her last hit of the 1980s was 1989's "Quien te crees tu", which was the theme to Lupita's last finished acting project, telenovela "Lo Blanco y lo Negro", produced and acted by Ernesto Alonzo, with the participation of the late Mariana Levy.
Even during times of success on Tv and the music scene, Lupita suffered due to her failed marriages, which influence her dependence on drugs, a problem she has battled for years, sometimes successfully, but time after time she has fallen back on it.
During the 1990s, the quality of her music was inferior, although she could got, at last, a contract with a decent record company, after leaving the nasty Discos Orfeón, but releases were scarse. The only bright spot was an album released in 1994, which contained her successful and now classic track "Leona Dormida" which has become her nickname to this day.
Even though Lupita has not released many albums in the 90s and 2000's, she is nevertheless a constant figure in the entertainment world of magazines and television (Check Controversy section).
In 2000, after years of not being offered significant roles in telenovelas, she accepted one in
TV Azteca with "Ellas, inocentes o culpables", although she left the production after a month. This production was starred byLeonardo García , the son ofAndrés García .2005's album "Cuando el amor te besa", was a minor success only in Mexico, but it failed to be officially released anywhere else.
Lupita is one of the very few artists in the Latin world, who regardless of success or quality of albums and controversies, she is still a celebrity, and prove of her long-lasting success is the fact that her songs from her peak period of the 70s and 80s are still classics sung by the younger generations thanks to her constant exposure to the media, where she doesn't fail to sing her songs in shows like "Otro Rollo" among others. Also, her most famous songs have become staples in singing reality shows such as "
La Academia " and "Cantando Por Un Sueño".Thus, Lupita is still selling out concerts whenever she has a presentation.
candals
In 2001, she married for the sixth time, this time to German model Christian Rossen (23 years her junior). Months later they separated and she accused her husband of being gay and having had an affair with
Andrés García Jr . García Jr accepted he knew Rössen when they were both in the same model agency. Andrés quickly challenged D'Alessio and defended the honor of his son supporting him in filing a lawsuit against the singer. Leonardo, however, did not file a lawsuit. In 2005, during a presentation of the play of her son Ernesto ("José el soñador") Jorge Vargas, Ernesto's father, attended the play with actress
Alejandra Ávalos . Lupita then accused Ávalos of having an affair with Vargas. After these accusations Vargas' wife filed for divorce and Ávalos decided to lawsuit against the singer denying any romantic involvement with Vargas. Ávalos, however, did not file a lawsuit. In November 2005 Luipta D'Alessio was once again the center of attention of yet another scandal. This time, a few paparazzis who happened to be at the same time at the same nightclub as the singer, Acapulco's legendary Baby'O, forwarded some striking images to the press in which D'Alessio is kissing a young man, then a young woman and eventually ends up lifting upher own shirt. Lupita, upon being questioned by the reporters about her actions, she did not hesitate to answer: "Well yeah, I mean, it isn't strange to me, God says 'Love one another,' right? Is there a problem with that?" Later, D'Alessio blamed the show-biz press for making up scandals and conspiring against her.(see [http://www.esmas.com/espectaculos/farandula/492180.html] )
In theater she took the lead role in "La novicia rebelde" (the
Spanish language version of "The Sound of Music ").In 2006, during a show in one of Mexico City's most renowned show-biz clubs D'Alessio, after having finished singing a song, got a round of applause and noticed that one of the spectators on the front row didn't applaud. Indignated, the singer turned to give him a dirty look and yelled at him "¡Chinga tu madre!" (Go Fuck your mother!!!) I am an artist and I deserve respect, and if you don't appreciate my art, then "qué chingados haces aquí?" (what the hell are you doing here?)" She then immediately walked out and did not return at all that night. In 2007, she criticize the pop group
RBD andPaulina Rubio . She said that RBD and Paulina Rubio are a bad artists.Films
