The CN Police Service is a private police force enforcing safety and security along the Canadian National Railway properties and rail lines in Canada and the United States, including GO Train lines in the Greater Toronto Area.

Established in 1923, sworn officers operate across Canada and the United States. In Canada the Headquarters is located in Montreal, Quebec. Regional offices in Montreal, Quebec; Toronto, Ontario; Winnipeg, Manitoba; Edmonton, Alberta and Vancover, British Columbia.

The CN Police Service today is an amalgamation in Canada of two railway police services, the CN Police and in 2005 the BC Rail Police. In the US the CN Police is an amalgamation of three US railway police services, Illinois Central Railroad Police, Grand Trunk Railway Police and Wisconsin Central Transportation Police.

In Canada Officers and Members are federally sworn under section 44.1 Railway Safety Act and have powers as Police Constables and have the same powers of arrest as any police officer in Canada as 'Peace Officers' under Section 2 of the Criminal Code of Canada. Their federal oath of office primarily directs their duties 'on and along' the lines of the Canadian National Railway. Officers also have special provincial appointments which allow for them to extend provincial enforcement outside the boundaries set under the Canada Transportation Act, except in Quebec where they have no provincial authority.

Their primary duty is to protect rail commerce and the rail infrastructure. Three main focused mandates of the CN Police are:

*Traffic Enforcement and Collision investigation to reduce deaths and injuries along the rail lines and on rail properties
*Criminal Investigation and Crime Prevention Related Intiatives
*Public Safety and Awareness Education

Their numbers were greatly reduced during privatization of the CNR in the mid-nineties when the CNR transitioned from a Crown Corporation to private industry and became a tax paying corporation thereby entitling CN to the provincial and municipal policing efforts already in place across the nation. This allowed for the reduction of the federal railway police service.
