The King's Bishop Stakes is an American
Thoroughbred horse race . The race is open to three-year-olds willing to sprint sevenfurlong s on the Saratoga dirt track. The race, in its 24th renewal in 2008, is a Grade I and carries a purse of $250,000. It's the biggest of the year for sprinting three-year-olds, save for theBreeders' Cup Sprint ...for which it is a major prep.The race is named for
King's Bishop , a horse originally owned byCraig F. Cullinan, Jr. , founding president of theHouston Astros Major League Baseball club. The Stakes record is held by Pomeroy at a time of 1:20 4/5, set in 2004.The race was not run in 1986.
