Boyd Gaming

Boyd Gaming Corporation (NYSE|BYD) is a Las Vegas, Nevada based business engaged in the development, ownership and operation of hotels and casinos throughout the United States. The company continues to be run by founder Sam Boyd's family under the management of Sam's son, Bill Boyd.

The company operates in 7 states and at the end of 2005 the corporation will have over 11,500 hotels rooms.

History

Founded by Sam Boyd.

In 1993 the firm became a public company traded on the NYSE.

Boyd gaming is the first casino operator to introduce defibrillators on casino floors. On July 1, 2004 Boyd Gaming completed its $1.3 billion merger with Coast Casinos and all Coast properties and businesses are now wholly owned subsidiaries of the company.

On January 4, 2006 Boyd announced Echelon Place as the new project for its current Stardust site.

On May 31, 2006, Boyd announced plans to acquire the convert|220000|sqft|m2|abbr=on Dania Jai-Alai fronton $153 million.

On October 2, 2006, the company announced plans to trade the Barbary Coast Hotel and Casino for 24 acres on the strip.

In early January 2007, Boyd completed the trade of the Barbary Coast for the 24 acres adjacent to Echelon Place.

Development sites and projects

*On January 4, 2006 Boyd announced Echelon Place as a replacement for the dated Stardust. It was announced that Bob Boughner who is currently President and Chief Executive Officer of Boyd Gaming's Borgata Hotel, Casino and Spa in Atlantic City, New Jersey will leave that position to lead the development of the Echelon Place project. The Stardust was demolished in March 2007, with Echelon Place scheduled to open in early 2010.
