- HMS Saltash (J62)
HMS "Saltash" (J62) was a
Royal Navy Hunt class minesweeper, built byMurdoch and Murray ofPort Glasgow , launched25 June 1918 and served through the latter part ofWorld War I as well as through all ofWorld War II . She was involved in the evacuation of Dunkirk, during which, onJune 1 1940 , she took onboard the crew of HMS "Havant" (H32) "Havant" having been heavily damaged by Germanaircraft after they had successfully evacuated some 3,000 troops themselves."Saltash" later returned to northern
France as part of the Normandy landings in1944 . She was decommissioned on13 March 1947 .HMS "Saltash" was armed with a 4-inch LA forward and a 12 pounder AA. She was named after the
town ofSaltash in south-eastCornwall ,United Kingdom .External links
