RoboCup

RoboCup is an international founded in 1993. The aim is to develop robots with the intention of promoting research and education in the field of artificial intelligence. The name "RoboCup" is a contraction of the competition's full name, "Robot Soccer World Cup".

The official goal of the project: [cite web|url=http://www.robocup.org/overview/22.html|title=RoboCup: Objective|publisher=RoboCup|date=1998|accessdate=2008-01-01] :"By mid-21st century, a team of fully humanoid robot soccer players shall win the soccer game, complying with the official rule of the FIFA, against the winner of the most recent World Cup."

The contest currently has four major competitions, each with a number of leagues:

* RoboCup@Home

The RoboCup@Home competition debuted in 2006, and focuses on the introduction of robots to human society.

Notes

RoboCup is not to be confused with RobotCub, a humanoid robot project with the aim of studying cognition through robotics.
