Último Guerrero is a Mexican professional wrestler currently working for Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre. He is not related to Lucha Libre legend Gory Guerrero or any of his children, "Guerrero" is the Spanish word for "warrior" as well as a surname. His name is meant to be translated literally as "The Last Warrior". This may be a Reference to Wrestlers, "The Ultimate Warrior" and "Ultimo Dragon".

Career

Mexico

Guerrero was trained in GYM EL RANCHERO that has also is responsible for newly CMLL Gran Alternativa winner La Sombra De Plata. He began wrestling in 1990 and worked for several years around his native Durango before getting noticed in the ill-fated Promo Azteca promotion with his training partner Super Punk. Soon, he changed his name to Último Guerrero and Super Punk became Último Rebelde and the tag team began working with a hooligan gimmick. He was set to lose his mask in tag team masks vs. hair match but Guerrero jumped to Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre in late 1997 and saved his mask. In CMLL, he wrestled mostly on the undercard with a mask win over Mr. Águila in 1998, mostly because Águila had already wrestled in the World Wrestling Federation without the mask.

In 1999, Guerrero, along with veteran Blue Panther, won the Gran Alternativa tournament, a major tournament for young wrestlers and often a sign of a push. Shortly afterwards, Guerrero won a cibernético to determine the number one contender for Great Sasuke's NWA World Middleweight Championship. Guerrero was unsuccessful but having a singles match in Arena México was a good showcase for Guerrero. Soon, he began teaming with Rey Bucanero and the two were recruited by veteran Satánico to be part of a stable called Los Nuevos Infernales, a recreating of a popular "rudo" (heel) team from the early 1990s. Guerrero and Bucanero were pushed as a tag team, winning a tournament in July 2000 with a finals win over Lizmark and Lizmark, Jr. for a shot at the CMLL World Tag Team Championship. A month later, the team defeated Mr. Niebla and Villano IV for the titles. Guerrero then worked a short program with Negro Casas, winning a match over him on the last show of 2000.

In 2001, Guerrero and Bucanero turned on Satánico by helping Tarzan Boy defeat him in a singles match. Tarzan soon joined Guerrero and Bucanero and the group called themselves Los Guerreros de Infernal. Injuries caused Guerrero to become the de facto leader of the group and Máscara Mágica ended up filling in for Tarzan for much of the year. Along with regular allies like Fuerza Guerrera and Black Warrior, Satánico recruited Averno and Mephisto (two undercarders with new gimmicks) to be part of his own Infernales group. The two groups feuded with each other over the name "Infernales." It was eventually settled in a seven man cage match where Mágica lost to Satánico and Guerrero's group could no longer use the name. They settled on Los Guerreros del Infierno and began to feud with Negro Casas and El Hijo del Santo over the tag titles. After a match with an inconclusive finish in September, Casas and Santo defeated Guerrero and Bucanero for their titles on November 2.

In 2002, Guerrero and Bucanero defeated Santo and Casas to regain the tag titles in May. Shortly after winning the titles Guerrero and Bucanero were in a program with Damián and Halloween of La Familia de Tijuana over the tag titles with Los Guerreros successfully defending their titles on July 5. Guerrero and Bucanero spent the rest of the year feuding with Vampiro Canadiense and Shocker with another successful title defense against them on September 13. In December, he defeated Shocker for the CMLL World Light Heavyweight Championship, his first singles title and the most prestigious singles title in the promotion. The feud continued into 2003 with Shocker defeating Guerrero in a singles match but losing against Guerrero for the Light Heavyweight Championship a week later. Guerrero and Bucanero also defended the tag team titles successfully against Vampiro and Lizmark, Jr. When L.A. Park came into CMLL in December 2003, he aligned himself with Shocker and they immediately began to feud with Guerrero and Bucanero. The two teams traded the CMLL Tag Team Championship in early 2004. Atlantis and Blue Panther defeated Guerrero and Bucanero for their tag titles on June 25 in Los Guerreros' first title defense after winning the titles back from Shocker and L.A. Park. On CMLL's 71st anniversary show on September 17, Guerrero successfully defended the Light Heavyweight Championship against L.A. Park.

In 2005, he feuded with the young Místico during the early part of the year, losing a singles match to him on February 25 leading to a tag program with Guerrero and Bucanero against Místico and Dr. Wagner, Jr. Guerrero had a brief feud with Dos Caras, Jr. over the CMLL Light Heavyweight Championship where Guerrero successfully defended on May 27. Guerrero and Bucanero joined Universo 2000 in his feud with Perro Aguayo, Jr.'s Los Perros del Mal group leading to several rudo vs. rudo match-ups. He finished out the year by helping Atlantis turn rudo and admitting him into Los Guerreros with the new name "Los Guerreros del Atlantida". In May 2006, He successfully defended his Light Heavyweight title against Héctor Garza in the match underneath Bucanero and Tarzan Boy defeating Damián 666 and Mr. Águila in a double hair vs. hair main event. The following week, Guerrero won the Grand Prix tournament that featured wrestler for Mexico, Japan and the United States. At the end of the month, he and Tarzan Boy turned on Rey Bucanero and tore up his tights, signifying he was no longer a member of Los Guerreros. On July 14, Bucanero defeated him for his CMLL World Light Heavyweight Championship, ending his reign as champion after 3 and a half years. On June 29 2007 the Gran Alternativa (Great Alternative) Tournament was held at Arena Mexico. Ultimo Guerrero teamed up with Euforia and both wrestlers were defeated by Místico and his teen-age companion Sombra, who earlier in the tournament had eliminated the team formed by Dr. Wagner Jr. and Máscara Púrpura. Upset as he was, Ultimo Guerrero publicly asked Dr. Wagner for an alliance to challenge Místico and Negro Casas for the CMLL Tag Team Championship. The match was held on July 13 2007 at Arena Mexico. Ultimo Guerrero and Wagner defeated the champions, who asked for a re-match next Friday July 20, taking back their champioship belts once they defeated Ultimo Guerrero and Dr. Wagner Jr. who ended up cursing each other in mutual accusations of betrayal that led to a new feud between the two wreslers. On July 27, at Arena Mexico, Dr. Wagner and Místico held a "mano a mano" match which was decided by a treacherous intervention by Ultimo Guerrero, who climbed into the ring, attacked Wagner by the back and left him ready for Místico to win the match. In the aftermath, Ultimo Guerrero ripped off Wagner's mask. On August 3 2007 Ultimo Guerrero teamed up with Atlantis and Sangre Azteca against Dr. Wagner Jr., Alex Koslov and Volador Jr. at Arena México. The match ended with a controversial "Guerreros de la Atlantida" victory over the faces team. A furious Ultimo Guerrero took the microphone and challenged Wagner for a mask vs mask match. A "mano a mano" match had taken place one week later, on August 10 2007, with Wagner being the winner by, ironically, using a dirty trick to pull off Guerrero's mask.
