- John Bellany
John Bellany CBE, RA (born
18 June 1942 ) is a Scottish painter.He was born in Port Seton. During the 1960s, he studied at
Edinburgh College of Art and then at theRoyal College of Art inLondon .In much of his work, he has drawn inspiration from the coastal communities from which he came. Many of Bellany's paintings contain the fishing community, either oil paintings of harbours, or portraits of the fishing community people. His health problems which led to a
liver transplant have also inspired works.A recent move to
Barga inTuscany Italy has drastically changed his work which is now showing a huge optimism in the brighter colour range used.His work is in some of the world's greatest collection including The
Museum of Modern Art , New York, TheMetropolitan Museum , New York andTate Britain , London.He was awarded the
