September 20 1892 inNew York, New York ; diedNovember 30 1934 inHollywood, California ) was a U.S.songwriter . Alyricist , he frequently collaborated with composerFred E. Ahlert – their popular 1928 song "Mean to Me" has become ajazz standard . He worked with many other composers, including for film lyrics.
