footnotes = A Rob Roy is a cocktail similar to a Manhattan. The drink is named for the Scottish folk hero Robert Roy MacGregor. The Manhattan is made with any other whiskey, while the Rob Roy is made with Scotch whisky.

Variants of the drink include the Dry Rob Roy, which is made with dry vermouth and the Perfect Rob Roy, which is made with equal parts sweet and dry vermouth. The drink traditionally contains Angostura bitters, but this ingredient is commonly omitted. Adding the honey-flavored liqueur Drambuie to a Rob Roy makes a Bobbie Burns.
