Porter Hall

Porter Hall (September 19, 1888 – October 6, 1953) was a character actor known for appearing in a number of films in the 1930s and 1940s. Possessing a weak chin and shifty eyes, Hall played movie villains or comedic incompetent characters. Porter appeared in "Petrified Forest", "Miracle of Morgan's Creek", "Miracle on 34th Street", "Arizona", "Double Indemnity", "The Dark Command" and "Ace in the Hole". He didn't start appearing in films until he was 43 years old. Prior to that, Hall spent nearly 20 years touring as a stage actor. Outside the stage, Hall was known as a kind and generous soul and a deacon at Hollywood's First Presbyterian Church.

"Porter Hall" was the "bad guy" character's name in Russ Meyer's "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls."
