Thirring model

Thirring model

The Thirring model is a two-dimensional, exactly solvable quantum field theory which describes the self-interactions of a Dirac field. If this spinor field is denoted by ψ, then the Thirring model is given by the Lagrangian density

:mathcal{L}=overline{psi}(ipartial!!!/-m)psi-frac{g}{2}left(overline{psi}gamma^mupsi ight)left(overline{psi}gamma_mu psi ight)

where g is the coupling constant, m is the mass, and gamma^mu, for mu = 0,1, are the two-dimensional gamma matrices. It was first studied by and named after Walter Thirring.
