Biography
Hailing from
Stillwater, Oklahoma , The Great Divide was a grass roots working band that attempted to meet the country music industry head on with its work ethic, tenacity, genuine likeability, and hard-hitting style. Over the past fifteen years The Great Divide steadily progressed the hill of the unforgiving music industry, proving not only their musical talents, but also their business savvy before disbanding in 2007.Fact|date=October 2008In 1993 the group formed their own record label, publishing company and operating company, and began recording. The band's first two albums, "Goin' For Broke" and "Break In The Storm", were independent releases.
Atlantic Records signed the group and re-released "Break In The Storm" as well as the band's third album, "Revolutions". After TGD asked to be released from Atlantic they recorded Afterglow, which was picked up by Broken Bow Records. Once again the band asked to be released from a recording contract due to lack of effort and enthusiasm from the label office.Fact|date=October 2008 "Remain", the band's fifth album, was released independently at the end of 2002.The Great Divide's original front man, central songwriter, and only real talent left the band in early 2003. By late summer the band was back on the road with new lead singer and lead guitarist, Micah Aills.
The Great Divide was a tribute to the American dream as exhibited by the band members' undying belief in their music and their refusal to meet obstacles with defeat.Fact|date=October 2008
As of 2007 the band decided to disband and is no longer together. They were never the same band after the departure of Mike McClure.Fact|date=October 2008 His vision and talent is manifesting itself in a successful solo career while the original members TGD have taken to the sidelines.Fact|date=October 2008
This biography was more than likely written by "the great" Mike McClure himself.Fact|date=October 2008 After his "departure" from TGD, McClure grew bitter, even taking shots at his former mates in the lyrics of songs released on his solo albums.Fact|date=October 2008 Furthermore, TGD's 2005 album "Under Your Own Sun", featuring Micah Allis on vocals, ranks as one of the band's best efforts, on par with only "Break In the Storm". Fans of TGD are still upset that McClure, being so difficult to work with, actually burned most of the band's bridges, making it extremely difficult for them to succeed in the industry in his absence.Fact|date=October 2008
That's the best laugh I've had all day. Thanks. - Mike McClure
