The currentbishop is theMost Reverend Gerald Dino .The Eparchy's territorial jurisdiction includes the states of
Alaska ,Arizona ,California ,Colorado ,Nevada ,New Mexico ,Oregon , andWashington . It is asuffragan of the Archeparchy of Pittsburgh. Currently, Van Nuys has 19 parishes and one mission under its canonical jurisdiction. Most parishes follow the Ruthenian tradition, although the eparchy includes one parish of the Italo-Albanian tradition.History
The creation of a new eparchy for the western United States was proposed by the metropolitan
synod in1981 . TheCongregation for the Oriental Churches in theHoly See recommended the erection of a new eparchy, which was approved byPope John Paul II . The Eparchy of Van Nuys was canonically erected onMarch 9 ,1982 , by ArchbishopsStephen Kocisko , Metropolitan of the Metropolia of Pittsburgh; Pío Laghi,Apostolic Delegate to the United States; andTimothy Cardinal Manning , Archbishop of Los Angeles.Thomas Dolinay was the firstbishop of the eparchy.The
mother church of the eparchy is the Cathedral of St. Mary inSherman Oaks, California , which was damaged in theNorthridge earthquake in1994 . The bishop's residence and eparchial offices were relocated toSt. Stephen Pro-Cathedral inPhoenix, Arizona .
