BITX Transceiver

The BITX is an amateur radio transceiver created by Ashhar Farhan. It operates in the 14 MHz amateur band and includes single sideband modulation.

The intention was to produce a simple design that could be easily assembled by beginners in developing countries, particularly India. Hams in such countries often lack low cost equipment to get them on air. No expensive or hard-to-find components are required, and no specialized equipment is needed for calibration. For example, many of the transformers used in the transceiver are wound on ordinary tap washers. The unit employs bi-directional amplifiers to simplify switching from transmit to receive.
