- Alice Schonfeld
.
Although Alice Schonfeld is most known for her sculpting work primarily in Italian
marble , she is also regarded as an inspirational figure for the disabled community. Her determination to work through debilitating illnesses has succeeded in promoting disabled artist visibility through her participation in multiple exhibitions since suffering severalstroke s in the 1990's. To this day Alice continues to participate in shows and create art from her home inLa Costa, California , where she lives with her husband Bernard Schonfeld.Life
Alice demonstrated interest in art at an early age, and began to develop her technique at as a child. Passionate about diverse portrayal of perspective, at age 15 she began to express herself in a variety of media including drawing, charcoal, painting, and eventually stone. Eventually her passion prompted her to study art in northern California during the sixties, and she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Drawing & Painting from
San Francisco State University in 1968.Alice later transitioned to the stone medium as her primary artistic outlet, and she was invited to study with master sculptor
Robert Ortlieb at the Riverside Art Center in California in the seventies. Alice has studied and sculpted on multiple occasions in Italy during the eighties and nineties, resulting in two large sculptures carved in Italian Carrara Marble. Subsequently Alice joined the Claystone Sculpture Studio of Herb Conrad inPerris, California , where she continues to work today. Although Alice has chosen not to sell a single piece she has created, her work is on exhibition in many galleries, and exhibitions across California including private collections.Tragically since 1990 Alice has suffered multiple
stroke s, which have greatly affected her memory, and nearly ended her pursuit of artistic expression. Alice Schonfeld adapted to her environment with a variety of visial reminders, enabling her to create many of her more notable works.Works
