KYTV is the NBC affiliate for Springfield, Missouri, and the Ozarks region. It broadcasts on analog channel 3 and digital channel 44. The station is owned by Schurz Communications.

History

The station signed on October 1, 1953, as Springfield's second television station; KTTS-TV (channel 10, now KOLR) had signed on in March. Although KYTV has been an NBC affiliate since its sign-on, it also shared a secondary ABC affiliation with KTTS-TV until 1967 when KMTC (channel 27, later KDEB-TV and now KSFX-TV) made its debut.

In 1979, KYTV was acquired by Harte-Hanks Communications. Schurz Communications, the current owner, bought the station in 1987.

KYTV also operates a low-powered UHF outlet and sister station K15CZ, the region's The CW affiliate, which is also seen on KYTV's digital signal.

KYTV's digital signal consists of itself on 3.1, K15CZ, the CW affiliate on 3.2, and NBC Weather Plus on 3.3.

On September 21, 2006, Schurz and Perkin Media cut a deal with Piedmont Television to take over Springfield's ABC affiliate, KSPR. Under the deal, Schurz controls all of the non-FCC assets and run the station's operations under a local marketing agreement.

In November 2006, KY3 got an all new set. The weather area is now in the main studio and there is a background lowered over the sports section to make an interview area. The background is changed with the time of day. (e.g. Ozarks Today's background is a picture of a sunrise in Springfield). The former weather area was turned into the "Virtual Newsroom", where topics relating to the Internet such as scams are discussed.
