- Toronto Community Housing Corporation
Metro Toronto Housing Authority, or MTHA, was created in the late 1940s and early 1950s to deal with housing for the poor and to eliminate the development of slums in the City of Toronto and adjacent suburbs. In 2002, it merged with other public housing providers to form the Toronto Community Housing Corporation which is one of the largest public housing providers in North America.
TCHC has:
* 164,000 low and moderate-income tenants in 58,000 households
* 360 high-rise and low-rise apartment buildings
* about 800 houses and duplexes throughout the city
Key areas of TCHC include:
* Regent Park, currently being redeveloped
* Don Mount Court, redevelopment completed
* Lawrence Heights, planned redevelopment
