It was used to host some matches of the 2002 World Cup (South Africa vs Spain, Poland vs USA and South Korea vs Italy) .
After the World Cup it became the stadium of Daejeon Citizen with a capacity of 41,295 seats. It replaced Daejeon Sports Complex.
