Red Lightning were a Los Angeles-based band composed of English guitarist Alain Whyte (of Morrissey's band) on lead vocals and guitar, John DiMambro on bass guitar and Milo Todesco on drums. Red Lightning showcased Whyte's songwriting talent with virtuoso musicianship and an exciting live show. The band listed U2, The Clash, The Cult, The Smiths and Morrissey as its influences. Background

All three band members had impressive musical pedigrees spanning the range from punk to rockabilly to English pop to orchestral. As a unit, their experience showed in well-balanced arrangements and that preternatural sense of timing that only develops with years of live performance.

Alain Whyte was most renowned as one of Morrissey's guitarists and for his co-writing credits on many of Morrissey's songs. With a rockabilly background, Whyte's musical compositions evolved over the years to include unforgettable hooks, achingly beautiful melodies and alternate tunings that have stumped many a guitarist. Having sung supporting vocals for Morrissey for years, Whyte carried the lead vocalist duties of Red Lightning with ease.

On bass guitar is John DiMambro (aka Johnny Anger) a long time Morrissey and the Smiths fan. John grew up in the thick of LA's punk scene and recorded with Down by Law and Gentleman Jack Grisham of T.S.O.L as well as psychobilly madmen The Rocketz on double bass. He performed live with Pearl Harbour, Jane Wiedlin of The Go Gos and Agent Orange.

On drums was Milo Todesco. Milo had recorded and performed live with Down By Law, Armen Chakmakian of Shadowfax, Jim Cherry of Strung Out, Pully, Zero Down, and played timpani with UCLA Choir conductor Roger Wagner. [http://x-13.com/redlight/bio.htm]

Band history

Red Lightning played their first official show on April 30, 2005 at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood, California. They recorded a full-length album with producer David Newton (Mighty Lemon Drops, Fonda, The Blood Arm and Blue Aeroplanes) in 2005.The band announced their split via their Myspace page: [http://www.myspace.com/redlightningmusic]
