March 17 ,1938 inNew York City ) is a long-timeWashington, D.C. political journalist. He is currently Washington Bureau Chief for the "Dallas Morning News ," a post he has held since 1981. He current president of theGridiron Club and former president of theWhite House Correspondents' Association .After attending the
Ethical Culture Fieldston School , he attendedCornell University , where he worked for the "Cornell Daily Sun ". He was electedPhi Beta Kappa and graduated with honors in 1959 with a degree in government. He subsequently earned an M.S. with honors in journalism from theColumbia University Graduate School of Journalism .
