Penn Manor High School is a secondary school located in Millersville, Pennsylvania. It is home to approximately 1900 students.

Technology Initiatives

In September 2007, Penn Manor High School was awarded $585,907 as part of the Pennsylvania Classrooms for the Future Project (CFF). CFF funding will be utilized to install 60 data projectors, 60 polyvision interactive white boards, and 475 Macbook laptops in all Math, Science, English and Social Studies classrooms.

Since June 2000, the high school has been one of the few Pennsylvania schools to provide a webcast of senior graduation ceremonies. The live commencement webcast has been viewed by hundreds of viewers around the country and around the world.

PMHS is the home of the Comets sports teams who compete in section 1 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League. Penn Manor athletic teams have won three Pennsylvania state championships. The girls soccer team won the state title in both 2002 and 2005, and the boys baseball team was the state champion in 2005. The class of 2004 baseball team was the first to achieve a sectional championship since 1973 and regarded as having the best infield in school history in Dan Kauffman, Nick Spisak, Alan Smith and Cody Wile. In addition, the wrestling team achieved section champions in 2006.

The Girls Track and Field teams of 1977 and 1978 were Lancaster County Champions and sent several girls on to compete and win at the District Track and Field Meet where several girls went on to compete and place at the Pennsylvania State High School Track and Field Meet.

In 2006-2007 The Boys Basketball team went on a magical playoff run, making it all the way to the District Three Championship. They won their first round in states against Liberty, then eventually bowing out in the second round to Philadelphia Public League champion Simon Gratz. Center Jordan Gibbs and guard Brandon Widener were often called one of the best duo's in the state. During the semifinal game in the District 3 playoffs against Cumberland Valley, Gibbs was perfect from the field, making all 13 shots and finished with a record 33 points.

Academics

Penn Manor High School also believes that it has many academic advantages compared to many others in the area. In 2006, the Quiz Bowl Team consisting of members Justin Bradfield, Chelsea Shover, Kevin Brent, and Philip Gruber earned first place honors on WGAL's academic trivia show, BrainBusters. Focusing more on the actual academics, Penn Manor, like all other competent high schools, offers many of the Advanced Placement Programs such as: AP Art, AP Literature, AP Physics B, AP Physics C, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP European History, AP United States History, AP Government/Economics, AP Economics, AP Psychology, AP Computer Science AB, AP Chemistry, and AP Biology. Many Honors courses are offered in all different curricula at the school. Honors courses have an additional weighting of 0.5 extra quality points while AP courses have an additional one extra quality point, as well as double credit because it is year round.

National Recognition

Penn Manor and Manor Middle school have since 2003 participated in Team America Rocketry Challenge (Tarc), a national engineering contest for 7-12 grade. The school has reached the national finals each year and won the national championship in 2004.The Penn Manor Rocketry teams have been recognized as one of the best Tarc programs in the country

In Addition to the Tarc, Penn Manor High School's Technology Student Association (TSA) Chapter has placed 1st in the nation in events. In June 2006, Shane LaPierre, Henry Stewart, and Tyler Newswanger placed 1st and Josh Dyer, William Killian, and Mark Peifer placed 2nd in the System Control Technology event.

Penn Manor is known for it's "Bring Your Tractor to School Day". Which happens every year.

Theatrics

Penn Manor is locally known for its strong theatre program. Last year's fall play "Dearly Beloved" has been performed at the state ITS(International Thespan Society) conference in Connellsville, PA.

Penn Manor School District has a total of 10 schools: 1 high school, 2 middle schools, and 7 elementary schools.The Middle Schools, Marticville and Manor, are both schools containing 7th and 8th grades. Manor Middle School also has the district offices. The 7 elementary schools are: Central Manor, Letort, Eshleman, Hambright, Conestoga, Pequea, and Martic. Elementary schools operate for the Kindergarten classes up to the sixth grade. The high school, Penn Manor High School, goes from grade nine to grade twelve

Recent News events

In March 2008 the parents of David Miller III of Millersville PA filed a federal lawsuit against the school for violating their son's first amendment right to freedom of speech. Donald had recently been suspended for two days after wearing a t-shirt that stated "Volunteer homeland security" on the front and "Special Issue — Resident — Lifetime License — United States Terrorist Hunting Permit — Permit No. 91101 Gun Owner — No Bag Limit" on the back of the shirt.

School officials explain that students have limited 1st amendment rights in order to keep students safe.

A federal judge is to review the case on March 31 2008.
