GM Powertrain Flint North (GMPT Flint North) is a General Motors
automobile engine andcomponents plant located at the Stewart Avenue exit of I-475 inFlint, Michigan . The plant consists of several factories that combine to make the Flint North Powertrain plant. The 4,000,000 square foot plant was opened in 1905 as part of theBuick Motor Company and is the last part ofBuick City still standing. The engine plant (Factory 36) portion of Powertrain Flint North is slated to close in June of 2008. It is famous for building theGM 3800 engine , one of the longest-produced automobile engines in history. The remaining factories (05, 9, 10, 14, 25, 29, 75 and 81) which compose the maintenance, sanitation and components producing buildings of the plant, have no estimated close date at this time. The employees of Powertrain Flint North are represented byUAW Local 599 and its President, Bill Jordan and Chairman Terry Everman.
