University of Washington Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies

The Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies is a school within the University of Washington's College of Arts and Sciences, in Seattle, Washington. The Jackson School manages undergraduate and graduate academic programs in International Studies and in various regional tracks. In addition to general International Studies, the undergraduate programs are Asian, Canadian, European, Latin American, and Jewish studies, and comparative religion. The graduate programs are China, Japan, Korea, Middle East, Russian, East European and Central Asian, South Asian studies, and comparative religion.

The school claims a "commitment to regional, cross-cultural, and comparative studies" and is quite interdisciplinary, offering courses cross-listed in other departments and with professors specializing in a variety of fields, from economics to sociology to geography. While the various programs allow for a variety of approaches to study, the core international studies track has a strong emphasis on international political economy and has become increasingly liberal in its approach to issues like globalization, international development and the role of the United States in international affairs.

The school is named after Henry M. Jackson, a former U.S. Senator from Washington State who, as a senator, was very involved in issues of U.S. international relations.
