next_route=163State Route 162 is the official designation for a highway also known as the Pellissippi Parkway. It is a south to north primary highway in
Tennessee .As of
2003 , the route number was applied to an 5.9-mile long route in Knox County; its southern terminus was withI-40 where I-140 begins, and its northern terminus was with State Route 62 at Solway. Additionally, as of2005 the eastward highway extension of I-140 east ofU.S. Route 129 (Alcoa Highway) inBlount County, Tennessee was signed as SR 162. Plans call for extending the highway eastward toU.S. Route 321 inSevier County, Tennessee . Originally, the highway that is now designated as I-140 was designated SR 162 and "Pellissippi Parkway." The state route designation was dropped when the central portion was accepted into theInterstate Highway system as I-140, but the entire route of SR 162 and I-140 from Solway to SR 129 is still known as the Pellissippi Parkway.Pellissippi Parkway is mentioned in the Mr. Mack
rap song 'Where You From (Da 865),' which is about the greater Knoxville area. [Jer Cole, [http://www.knoxnews.com/kns/entertainment_columnists/article/0,1406,KNS_360_4871951,00.html Rapper proud to represent the 865] , "Knoxville News-Sentinel", July 28, 2006.]The
