Flacco

Flacco

Flacco is a fictional character played by Paul Livingston, who is also an author and political cartoonist.

In Television

He appeared on "The Big Gig" as an alien who engaged in observational humour. In later years he lost some of his manic eccentricity and became more script/sketch based. The script writer has remained anonymous for obvious reasons. His appearances were on "Good News Week" as the traditional comedy stooge paired with the Sandman (Stephen Abbott). He also appeared on DAAS Kapital, the TV show featuring the Doug Anthony All Stars. He is a regular performer on the ABC TV show The Sideshow.

The character

The Flacco character is most frequently performed as a "Private Dick". Flacco begins his monologues in the manner of a pulp novel ("Tuesday, 2AM") and fills the story with a series of non sequiteurs, puns and obscure double entendres, delivered in a patronising Mid-European accent

Examples include, "I was pulling at the petrol station...next time I must remember to bring my car", "It scared the living daylights out of me. Standing there with dead and dying daylights lying around..." and "I answered the phone in my pyjamas. What the phone was doing in my pyjamas is none of your business".

Internationally

Flacco has appeared in international comedy festivals - both in Canada and the United Kingdom.

Newspapers

For some weeks there was a cartoon in The Australian Weekend Magazine that illustrated his quirky understanding of the world around him.

Radio

In recent times - Flacco has had a presence on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. Robyn Williams of the The Science Show, and the Paul Petryn of the Music Show have had him as a commentator on their Radio National programmes

TV

Flacco has recently reappeared on the ABC show "The Sideshow" hosted by Paul McDermott. [ [http://www.abc.net.au/tv/sideshow/about/default.htm The Sideshow, ABC TV 2007] ]
