Luthor X began life in
Lismore, New South Wales , playing the Uni/Pub circuit alongsideGrinspoon , Spawn andHeadlifter . After collaborating with Spawn, Luthor X formedSPIRE and relocated toMelbourne . Here he worked withTankt in its embryonic stages while pursuing his own music as Lux Voltaire. Employing two talented cabaret and stage-fighting artists, Lux Voltaire began playing live around Melbourne and then Sydney in 2003. "(source and credit: badpauly ofFiend Magazine )"This version of Lux Voltaire featured James Mothership (samples and
vocals ), and Lady K (synthesizer and vocals). The trio played several shows until late 2004 when the two new members departed to pursueacting /cabaret careers.Lux has since collaborated with
Resurrection Eve , and remixed forJekyll Switch ,Snog andTankt as well as numerous other unsigned outfits. In early 2005 as the album "Prey For Uncertainty" was completed Lux enlisted the current group members of James Ryan (
backing vocals , synthesizer) and Brendan Creaven (bass andelectric guitar ), combining elements as diverse as synthpop, electropop, darkwave, glam and experimental sounds, and heavily utilising vintage Roland and Oberheim synthesisers as well as modern software synthesisers. Later that year Lux Voltaire was one of the first members of the new Gothic-Industrial-Electronic collectiveCrash Frequency .2006 saw Lux Voltaire the "Ich Liebe Mein Oberheim" mini album, radio airplay followed with FBi, 2SER-fm and 2RRR-fm supporting the release. The mini album contains remixes from
TankT , Bassmasta B (aka Brendan Creaven), Angel Theory amongst other notables. James Ryan (also The Horse Museum) relocated to Melbourne and his status with the band is unsure.Lux Voltaire has also diverged into a number of side projects including S.E.O. 90, Le Choc Electrique and Winter Palace, exploring genres as from ambient to electronica. Despite only a few "official" releases being in circulation, there is a breadth of this material - released and unreleased, and it is expected that Lux Voltaire will release new material, potentially under the Winter Palace psuedonym at some stage.
