An international rugby league tournament is planned for 2009. The tournament will largely be based on the concept of the Rugby League Tri-Nations, and is scheduled to be held in England &France. Great Britain will not feature in the competition, as after the 2007 New Zealand All Golds Tour, they will have broken up to reform only on special occasions. Their place will be taken by England.
There is a possibility France will be included in the competition. The International Board has asked the French administration to produce a business plan and costings before a final decision is made. [http://www.nzherald.co.nz/category/story.cfm?c_id=79&objectid=10410323]
If France are involved the tournament is likely to have a similar format to the early Rugby League World Cups, though the tournament will not be titled as such (likely to be 'Four-Nations') - a larger format World Cup is due to be held in 2008.
