- Hyundai Mobis
Hyundai Mobis (short for "Mobile" and "System") was established in 1977 as Hyundai Precision & Ind. Co. It is an auto parts company with headquarters based in
Seoul ,South Korea . In 2000, the company changed its name to Hyundai Mobis. The company forms the 'parts and service' arm forHyundai Motor Company andKia Motors , both of which are Korean brands. The term
Hyundai Mobis became a term among car enthusiasts for any of Hyundai's and Kia's brands, specifically for car and truck parts. This is due to the Hyundai and Kia names referring to both the parent company and to one of its brands, so to refer explicitly to the parent company, another term was needed.
A similar situation exists for the
GM Daewoo Auto & Technology , where "GM Daewoo" could mean either the brand or the parent company. A similar solution was found; enthusiasts refer to GM Daewoo, this is also the name applied to generic GM Daewoo-brand parts.Renault Samsung Motors enthusiasts do not have to deal with such a problem, since the abbreviation RSM has always referred to the parent company.Car production
In the 1990s, Hyundai Precision was producing the
Hyundai Galloper andHyundai Santamo cars which were licensed fromMitsubishi Motors . In some markets the cars were sold under the Galloper brand name. Production of these cars shifted to theHyundai Motor Company in 1999.External links
