The RER C is one of the five lines in theRER Rapid transit system servingParis , France.The line runs from Pontoise (C1), Versailles – Rive Gauche (C5) and Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (C7) to Massy-Palaiseau (C2), Dourdan-la-Forêt (C4), Saint-Martin d'Étampes (C6) and Versailles – Chantiers (C8)

* Number of stops : 84Line C was created in 1979 by connecting the Gare d'Orsay railway terminus (now Musée d'Orsay) with the "Invalides" terminus of the Rive Gauche line to
Versailles , along the banks of theSeine . In 1988 the Argenteuil branch opened, using most of the infrastructure of the old SNCFAuteuil line and connecting to the line's main trunk at Champ de Mars-Tour Eiffel via a curved bridge (the only one in Paris) over the Seine river.Chronology

September 26 ,1979 : Inauguration of RER C,Versailles-Rive Gauche –Invalides – Quai-d'Orsay, branching to Massy – Palaiseau, and Juvisy - Dourdan / St-Martin d'Étampes, after the construction of a new convert|1|km|mi|sing=on tunnel connecting the Gare d'Orsay to the Gare des Invalides.
* May 1980 : Service extended St-Quentin-en-Yvelines – Versailles – Chantiers - Gare des Invalides.
*September 25 ,1988 : Opening of VMI ("Vallée de Montmorency - Invalides") branch to northwest, toMontigny-Beauchamp andArgenteuil . Connection across Paris uses "ligne d'Auteuil" (incorporated into the "ligne de petite ceinture" from 1867, closed to passengers fromJuly 22 1934 ), and new tunnel connection Batignolles - St-Ouen, km to mi|3.
*September 29 ,1991 : New station, Porte de Clichy, opened. Located between Pereire-Levallois and St-Ouen.
* 1992 : The line is extended from Juvisy toVersailles .
*August 28 ,2000 : The line is extended fromMontigny-Beauchamp toPontoise , km to mi|9.
*August 28 ,2000 : New station, Bibliothèque François Mitterrand, opened in order to create a new connexion with Métro Line 14. Located between Paris-Austerlitz and Boulevard Masséna (which was closed and replaced by the new station).
*March 24 ,2002 : New station, St-Ouen-l'Aumône-Liesse, opened. Located between Pierrelaye and St-Ouen-l'Aumône.
*August 27 ,2006 : C3 branch (from Ermont-Eaubonne to Argenteuil) transferred toTransilien Paris – Saint-Lazare suburban rail network.
