Arthur Borren

Arthur Borren

Arthur Borren (born June 5, 1949 in Eindhoven, The Netherlands) is a former field hockey player from New Zealand, who was a member of the national team that won the golden medal at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal. He was born in Holland, and made such an impression on Canterbury and New Zealand hockey after being tutored by University club coach Cyril Walter.

One of his brothers, Jan, represented New Zealand at the 1968 and 1972 Summer Olympics, while two others, Frank and Toon, played for Canterbury. Arthur or Thur, a right wing, represented New Zealand at two Olympics, having made his New Zealand team debut in 1969.

Always of an entrepreneurial bent, Borren has flourished in business. He worked with another former New Zealand hockey star, Bruce Judge, through the 1980s in the Ariadne company. He was for a time Chief Executive of Hellaby Holdings and is now a director of Demi Holdings.

Borren remained close to hockey, coaching the University club in Auckland and being a member of the board of New Zealand Hockey for six years from 1989.
