Mexican built Mercedes are manufactured primarily for the Mexican market which has seen growth in demand for luxury vehicles since Mexico's recent economic expansion began in the late 90's but Mexican built Mercedes Benz vehicles are also sold in South America and Central America and Mexican built E-Class, C-Class, M-Class, S-Class vehicles have also infrequently sold in the United States as well, although as of currently (2011) the only Mexican built Mercedes-Benz vehicles available in the United States are the International truck series. In 2009, at Mercedes Benz Mexico's Monterrey plant, the 50,000th Mexican built Mercedes bus rolled off the assembly line. As of 2009 Mercedes Benz Mexico / Daimler Vehiculos Mexico controlled 60% of Mexico's commercial vehicle market.[6]
The Mexican Secretary of Defense (SEDENA) and Secretary of the Navy (SEMAR) also build several Mercedes-Benz models in Semi Knock Down kits (G-Class, Zetros, and Unimog) under license using Mexican and German sourced components.
