Caroline Finkel is an historian and writer based in
Turkey , with a doctorate from theSchool of Oriental and African Studies ,University of London .Her book "Osman's Dream, History of the Ottoman Empire 1300-1923" was published by John Murray in
England in 2005, and by Basic Books in theUS (ISBN 0-465-02396-7). Greek, Dutch and Russian editions are expected in the course of 2007, and in its Turkish edition (Rüyadan İmparatorluğa: Osmanlı) the book has seen three reprints in as many months. Other works include "The administration of warfare: the Ottoman military campaigns in Hungary, 1593-1606" (1988) and "The seismicity of Turkey and adjacent areas : a historical review, 1500-1800" (1995), written with N. N. Ambraseys. She holds an honorary fellowship at the University of Edinburgh, in Scotland.Awards
*In 2006 Finkel received the "Woman of Distinction Award" from the international relations group Daughters of Ataturk, an annual title bestowed on those who have "demonstrated vision, leadership, innovation and professionalism" in "giving their talents to the international Turkish community".
